Our church has been engaged in a year-long-plus conversation about the possibility of adding a second service. This conversation started originally due to numerical growth and crowding in our sanctuary, and has since evolved into a broader exploration of our struggles transitioning from a “pastoral” to a “program” size congregation. Based on the initially identified problem of crowding, the Board of Trustees created the Two Services Task Force to examine this issue and make a recommendation to the congregation. As the Task Force conducted its research, it quickly became clear that the challenge facing our church was much broader than just the question of whether to add a second service. The Task Force reported these findings about church growth and size-transition struggles to the Board of Trustees for further action, and then continued its assigned task of evaluating the merits of adding a second service. The Task Force presented its recommendation to the congregation this past January, that “yes,” we should try adding a second service. As we move towards a congregation-wide vote at the May 21st Congregational Meeting, the Two Services Task Force has published the first draft of a proposal for the congregation to review.
If you’d like to learn more about the process, two excellent resources are available below:

- the recently published Special Unigram containing the proposal and supporting material
As always, if anyone has questions or concerns, please feel free to contact members of the Two Services Task Force directly, they are more than happy to talk with you.
